The Rt Hon Sir Andrew McFarlane, the newly appointed President of the Family Division, addressed delegates at the ALC in Bristol, setting out his vision for the family justice system and responding to the view of many, that there is currently a crisis in relation to care proceedings. The President does not share this view, and identified a number of areas where there is a need for improvement to ensure that the system continues to function well. The issue of wellbeing for family law practitioners was also raised, with the President being keen to emphasise that he is more than just paying lip service to the issue.
